Prayers of an ol’ fool – Cool car

Psalm 34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.

As many who follow may know, I have had the privilege to know the Lord for over 40 years. During those decades, He has proved Himself to be a faithful, kind and loving Savior. And as I have learned to lean on Jesus, He has shown Himself to be a merciful Savior, never wavering, even in some very dark times.

This topical series will try to provide a snapshot of an ol’ fools prayers, the weakness and selfishness of his prayers, and the ever increasing goodness of God in His responses the those prayers.

I hope my witness to the goodness and faithfulness of God will be an encouragement to those reading, and will spur us all on to a deeper, more consistent time of being in the Lord’s presence.

Please visit with me as I tell the story of a faithful God and His care for an ol’ fool. Though David considered himself a poor man, I freely admit, I am just an “ol’ fool” looking to the Lord.

Cool car

I have spoke of our decision to re-enter school to provide for the family in a previous post, and may have forgot to mention that the commute between our home and the school was over 85 kilometers, or about 54 miles.

Our current vehicle at the time was an old Buick, on it’s last legs, but it was all we had, and I would have to depend on it as I travelled the 170 km each day to school and back, until the lease was up at our apartment.

When I originally went to the school for the initial visit, a kind lady by the name of Sophie, seeing our car had broke down one more time, offered me her vehicle to make the trip. Our family had befriended her and her son, and my wife had become quite close to her.

In the ensuing days coming up to my first day at school, it was apparent that the ol’ Buick may not be up to the task. I think I took her the first day, but by the time I got back that night, my wife told me that Sophie wanted us to use her car until we moved to Kirkland Lake.

What a provision! And to be honest, I was simply praying that God keep us moving with the ol’ Buick. Never did I ask for a provision such as this!

Oh – you ask what the cool car was? A Volkswagen Rabbit! Remember what I had to compare with!

He is good, and is the Great Provider, sometimes way beyond our limited prayers.
