Calvin’s Concerns – Bondage to Sin and Free Will

In our previous post, I tried to give some of my interactions and history with the Calvinistic thought process and teachings.

With this post, I would like to introduce you to the teacher I referred to earlier. He is a former Calvinist also, and has recanted, and has become a bit of a lightning rod for provisionism soteriology teaching.

Many of his videos are quite lengthy, and have kept my interest now for weeks. What I would like to do is offer his “60 Second Soteriology” clips to introduce you to Mr Leighton Flowers.

I do hope you will consider the teaching with an open mind.

  1. Would you agree that receiving Christ/believing in Christ also known as submitting to Gods law while unregenerate in the flesh with a hostile mind is pleasing to God?

      1. You know very well where Doubleajwalk is leading you. You avoid/refuse to answer because your entire theology on free will collapses.
Let me lay out the argument for your readers since you refuse to answer.
You and your false teachers (Leighton, Dr Brown, etc) preach that “whosoever” “every person” has the ability as an unbeliever/unregenerate/unconverted/in the flesh to believe the Gospel. You preach that the unbeliever is not hostile toward God and that by their own free will they can believe in Jesus.
But to the contrary for God says in the Scriptures that the unbeliever/unregenerate/unconverted/in the flesh loves the darkness rather than the light and that they are hostile toward God. The unconverted are referred to in Romans 8 as “in the flesh,” they do not submit to Gods law, they are not able to and finally they CANNOT please God.
“For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”
        ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:7-8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ (see also Jn 3:19-21)
Here we read that the unconverted, those in the flesh DO NOT have the ability to please God- for they cannot do what is pleasing to God.
Those of you who preach free will teach that the unconverted can please God because “believing in Jesus” is pleasing to God- you flip the Scripture upside down to say the exact opposite of Romans 8. You preach that the unconverted heart of stone has the “ability” by its own free will to please God by believing in Jesus. This is false doctrine therefore you preach a false gospel.
Repent of preaching and believing in a false gospel.
You are commanded by the Scripture to repent and believe the one and only true Gospel preached by Jesus and His apostles!

        1. Brother

It is amazing that in a few short comment, on a very insignificant blog post, you have completely disarmed centuries of historic Christianity by focusing on two or three Bible passages. You should create your own blog to share your truth, or better yet, start a church, or a radio ministry. How about a mission to a far away land so you can spread your message. You have the passion and all of the truth. It would be so wrong not to use your considerable exegetical skills to spread your teaching. (So many Christians are wrong, eh?)

If I understand your teaching, I cannot have faith until I am regenerated. When I am regenerated (according to your teaching), I will exercise faith/ – how could I not, (according to your teaching).
At that time (if I am ever regenerated), I suppose I will become a Calvinist, or something akin to that. Until then, I suppose I will wait.

Since I am unconverted (according to your teaching) , I suppose I will abandon all hope, realizing I am unpleasing to God (according to your teaching). Thank you Paul for your counsel and convincing ways.

          1. Please stop using the term “Calvinist” Charles Spurgeon was to my knowledge one of the most respected “ Calvinist” and he was the objector in Romans 9 like yourself

                  1. John 17:3 – says knowing The True God and Jesus Christ is everlasting life. So, we can only deduct that knowing The “Free will” God is the one that demonstrates you have eternal life or knowing The Absolute Sovereign Lord that causes all things for His glory who chooses vessels of mercy unconditionally as well as chooses vessels fitted out for destruction unconditionally who is the potter molding and making the clay into whatever he desires as Romans 9 says… is everlasting life

          2. Someone who knows Romans 9 says God chooses unconditionally vessels of mercy and vessels fitted out for destruction and that “free will” is something the Serpent offered “ you will be like God” “knowing”and the delusion was delivered by God to natural man in his spiritually dead condition. Now natural man thinks is capable of coming and recognizing the Roman’s Sovereign Lord without regeneration when the Bible says different. Human reasoning says man must have “free will” because it would be unfair if God didn’t give man “free will”. Wake up ! Adam and Eve were made upright and they blew it. What makes you think a natural man, spiritually dead man can recognize THE TRUE God that causes all things for his glory. Just because you think he should? The “free will” believer is the objector in Romans 9. In my assessment, According to the free will believer, God created everything the way he wanted and expected ..except He had to create an unknown “free will” in man because natural man says he has to, to be fair. In my estimation, from scripture, God cannot make anything that is unknown to Him; therefore He made you the way you are; without any surprises. Jesus said wide is the path that leads to destruction and MANY go in. That wide path is self righteousness. He says I’m inherently gifted with the ability to come to the true God when the Bible says no one seeks after the true biblical God. Oh, natural man seeks after god; but not the true one. He seeks after the one that does not cause all things but the one after his own imagination. After all the serpent said you will know good and evil. That was a lie you became evil by nature. Proven simply because all became liars. Your term “historic” can be used all the way back to the Garden of Eden when the delusion of “free will” was offered and solidified in man. If you think historic Christianity believes in free will, then historic Christianity is the path that leads to self righteous destruction. There are 2 versions of God and one of us is wrong; therefore; why do the “free will” God believers want to speak peace to Totally Sovereign Grace God believers that don’t believe in the “free will”God that was delivered as a delusion in the Garden of Eden when 2 John 9-11 says don’t share in their evil deeds ( doctrine) God isn’t going to have you do anything that is outside His rock solid plan set in stone from before the foundation of the world. He is God and if you had true libertarian “free will”, which is an oxymoron, you would be god…. which puts us right back in the Garden of Eden “ you will be like God” if you are like God, You don’t need Him…. which is exactly what the free will people believe God can’t interfere with my decision to choose Him or not choose Him because I now “know” after eating the fruit.

        2. I totally agree with Paul’s assessment that you cannot have faith until regenerated… John 3:3-8 says you can’t see the kingdom of God unless God Sovereignly blows his spirit into you like the wind blows where it wills. If you can’t see the kingdom of God unless regenerated, you surely can’t see the true God.
The “free will” teachers use an ear itching bait that appeals to natural man in the same way the serpent used “ you will be like God” “knowing good and evil” The tree looked desirable for food and to make one wise. While, all the time they ignored the unappealing word of God “Dying you shall die” The “free will” teacher says God would never choose unconditionally vessels of mercy or vessels fitted out by him for destruction. That doesn’t sound good and all the while they are ignoring God’s plain word “ who are you to talk back to God ..Doesn’t the Potter out of the same lump have the right over the clay to make one vessel of mercy and make one vessel fitted out for destruction…. Well, the natural spiritually dead man says no that doesn’t sound good ….just like Eve said it just can’t be right even though God said it so plainly that even my grandchild understands it God to be God knows everything because He is God and ordained everything. Adam brought death via the serpents bait and natural man likes to hear the bait of free will from the teachers who are a mouth piece for similar bait brought forth in the Garden of Eden. Eve must have thought everything seems so positive from the serpent and from what I’m seeing, So much so I’m not going to listen to the plain word of God “ Dying you shall die” can anyone miss the meaning of the sentence? Yes, they didn’t trust God’s plain word just like the free will advocate He just doesn’t trust God’s Word. Plain and simple

      2. We are not brothers and I will not speak “peace” to you when you are in clear opposition to the Gospel.

A few short verses! What are you talking about? I have given you chapters of information on sovereign unconditional election by the prophet Isaiah (ch 10) and and the apostle Paul in Romans ch. 8,9,10. I can’t give you anymore chapters or passages because you can’t even swallow on all of this information. We are still awaiting your positive presentation on any of it…….. ( I won’t hold my breath waiting for you- I’ll die waiting).

I haven’t managed to destroy Christianity, I simply lead people to the truth by providing the Scriptures. God sent His word down to lead His people to the truth and to condemn the non elect. You are angry because you cannot believe the God of the Bible and what He has said about Himself in all the chapters I have pointed out to you. You are the objector in Romans 9. You stand in opposition to the Scriptures as preached and defended by Jesus and His apostles.

Concerning Jehovah’s ministry, I have many years of labor for the Kingdom of God. God is my witness and I will not serve to be seen by others, I answer to Jehovah not you. This is not about what I do or don’t do so stop making it about “me.” This is about the Gospel and the exposing of the false gospel presented by Leighton here on your web site.

Let’s get back to the Scriptures because I have better work to do than waste my time answering your nonsense.

Yes regeneration must take place prior to conversion for the Scriptures tell us this in John 6, Romans 3,8,9. Every converted believer once enlightened with the truth will accept what the Scripture says. You however prove that you are the objector in Romans 9 and therefore make yourself part of those bad fruits from the diseased tree. Let me explain the passage.

““Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.”
        ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:15-20‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Jesus here teaches that the false prophets teach a false gospel. The false prophet with his false gospel is the diseased tree and this diseased tree bears bad fruit. The bad fruit being the bad message producing bad followers. The diseased tree cannot bear good fruit. Jesus says that the elect will recognize the false prophet and his false gospel by their fruit. We recognize a bad follower by its bad fruit which leads us back to the false prophet the diseased tree whom Jesus calls the ravenous wolves who come in sheep’s clothing.

        Repent and believe the Gospel!
