THOUGHTS ON THE TOPIC OF WIVES FROM THE BOOK OF WISDOM
Proverbs 31:10 An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.
Today is October 10th, 2026. It was only 16,436 days ago that I wed my excellent wife. For those scrambling to get to their calculator, let me make it easier for y’all. 540 months ago – no that isn’t as clear as I can make it.
Forty five years ago, a pretty little lady named Paula joined me in marriage and has proven to this ol’ fool that the Scripture we are considering is alive and well on planet earth. Paula and I have been through many trials, some of which have reshaped our relationship, but through it all, she has proven herself to be far more precious than jewels to me.
The Scripture above asks “who can find an excellent wife”, as if this is an impossible task. My friends, this is an impossible task if the Lord is outside of the relationship.
Before I take my wifey away for the day, I would offer the following Scriptures to those Christian husbands who may not have found in their wife this estimation of excellence. I readily admit not all of us have such a blessing as a lady like Paula who has blossomed into such an excellent wife, despite her hubby!
To those who may be seeking counsel on finding an excellent wife in your current mate. I offer Paul’s wisdom for you to consider.
Husband, lead your wife as Christ has led His church
Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.
Husband, sacrifice for your wife as Christ sacrificed for His church
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
Husband, prioritize your wife over all other earthly relationships
Ephesians 5:31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
Husband, love for your wife.
Ephesians 5:28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
Ephesians 5:33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself….
For me, I can only thank the Lord for such a wife as Paula. She is much more precious that rubies or diamonds.
For our 16,436th day of being married, we will spend it visiting bakeries and dress shops, having a meal together and spending time just “hanging out” She seems to like those things. I am a blessed man!!
Thank you Father for Paula. I look forward to another 45 years with my girlfriend!
