Commandments for Christians – No Working on the Sabbath

The-Ten-Commandments-Tablets-Are-Christians-Under-the-Law

As mentioned in a previous post, I was sent to studying the New Testament by a dear brother years back to understand the believers relationship to the Ten Commandments.

This post will continue with

Commandment #4 – No Working on the Sabbath

Exodus 20:4

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy

Six days you shall labor, and do all your work,

but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Lets remember the key questions we are looking to resolve as we go through each of the commandments.
  1. Is each commandment included in Jesus or the Apostles teaching?
  2. If so, was there anything different about the command as expressed by Jesus or the Apostles?

The NO WORKING ON THE SABBATH command is NOT included in Jesus and the apostles teaching.  Nothing to see here folks – Let’s move along.

Hope to see you next time.

  1. Did not Jesus and the apostles keep the Sabbath according to the commandment?

I must add, not according to the way the leaders of the day thought it should be kept, but as God required it to be kept.

I also see a lot more to the 4th commandment than just not working on that day. To me the Sabbath holds great meaning. It’s a day I don’t have to worry about any of my problems or work and I can just spend it with God. I believe God set the day aside as a sign of His authority as the Creator. If kept, we would never forget that awesome display of Gods love and creative power. Check out Isaiah 66:22,23. It looks like it will still continue to be observed in the new earth.

Anyways, these are just a few of my thoughts on the matter. God Bless

  2. I am wondering, I see the law in Christ.
    Here’s why:
    Matthew 5:17 KJV
17  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Christ goes on in the following verses about not breaking the commandments.
So dear brother these are just some musings from an old preacher.
